Laura & Kris – Herrington on the Bay Wedding Photography

I felt like I was in a Wrigley’s Double Mint Gum commercial with all the twins at this wedding! It was so fun – Laura has twin aunts, twin nieces, and has an identical twin sister herself. And then Kris’ brother just had twins too! Pretty crazy. I loved hearing Leslie (Laura’s twin sister) give her toast and talk about all the times they pretended to be each other. But I don’t think they’ll be switching places anymore now, because Laura seems pretty happy just being herself. After eleven years together, I think this couple has what it takes to make it last!

Shira & Ryan – Cylburn Arboretum Baltimore Wedding Photography

Shira and Ryan’s wedding was the first time I had been to Cylburn, but WOW. I was blown away by this venue. So gorgeous! Everything about this day was great, but my absolute favorite part was the last dance song – Bonfire Heart by James Blunt. I am always talking about this song and trying to convince all the DJs I work with to play it (ha!) and then Shira and Ryan actually choose it as their last dance!! Such a perfect end to a beautiful day!

Amanda & Mike – Elk Manor Winery Wedding Photography

Amanda and Mike are pretty playful and silly together, and that makes them a joy to photograph. I love it when couples allow their personalities to show through in the photos I take, and these guys did it so well. They were completely comfortable in front of the camera, and completely themselves! It didn’t hurt that we also had a gorgeous sunset that evening and so many pretty things to work with on the property. It was my first time at the Elk Manor Winery, but hopefully not my last!

Greece! (Santorini – Part II)

Santorini is one of those places where describing it in words isn’t really possible. Seriously one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Like, jaw-droppingly gorgeous. And simultaneously one of the most disappointingly touristy places I’ve ever been.

I don’t know why I envisioned it being so remote and self-preserved that no one but me would be there. Kind of like how I imagine Bora Bora to be. Hmmm. I was clearly misguided. Tourists everywhere, and enough souvenir shops to supply a small country with postcards and olive oil for life.

But here’s what did not disappoint: our villa and the view from our villa. (Another Airbnb win.) I loved that we were a tad off the beaten path in Imerovigli, definitely a more local village on the island. The “big” town of Fira was about a 30 minute walk away, so we walked there quite a bit, but our favorite restaurant of the whole trip ended up being right around the corner. (If you go, make sure to eat at Anogi!)

Greece! (Athens – Part I)

Greece. What better place to go with my photographer friends? It has an interesting culture, great scenery, and I guess just a little bit of history. Ha. Let me rephrase. Greece is sooooo oooooold! I think that’s one of the things I liked about it most. “Old” in America is like 200 years. “Old” in Greece is like 2000 years. TWO THOUSAND YEARS, GUYS.2014-07-28_0038

Natalie & Will – Naval Academy / Marriott Annapolis Waterfront Wedding Photography

Wow! This wedding. Total gorgeousness. The day was beautiful and everything was running more than smoothly until I boarded the shuttle with the bridal party to head to the Naval Academy and realized my ID was still in my car. Which was valeted back at the hotel. Oops. Totally not something I would normally do. Not to spend a lot of time on this story (it all worked out fine and I ended up not even needing it), but the resolution involved one of Will’s friends convincing the valet to let him into my car to dig through my purse to locate my driver’s license… without any direction on where to find it from me… This guy definitely has a career in criminal behavior if he wants one. I was impressed.

Anyhoo, back to Natalie and Will, because even despite my idiocy, they still stole the show. They are truly beautiful people, inside and out. One thing that was particularly fun about their wedding day was seeing the friendly Army/Navy rivalry. (It was all friendly, right guys?) Natalie grew up much like me, a military brat, used to moving around every few years. Her dad was in the Army so she was already pretty accustomed to the military lifestyle when she met Will. Will is in the Navy, a USNA grad, and comes from a family of naval officers, so of course plenty of dueling Army/Navy themes were present at the wedding. (Make sure you check out Natalie’s dad’s Army pride shirt he was hiding under his dress blues.)

One last thing I have to talk about is the story of how these guys met. Will’s mother is the librarian at the school where Natalie teaches, and after becoming friends with Natalie, starting telling her repeatedly that she needed to meet her son Will. And it was one of those set-ups that totally worked out! Guess “Momma knows best” really rings true every once in a while. :)

Meinders Family – Washington DC Family Photography

This lovely family goes back almost 20 years with mine to Ramstein, Germany! Our moms are good friends, so even though I don’t remember Sara or Kathryn from when we lived there, I definitely remember their parents and was thrilled to reconnect here in DC of all places. We spent the morning walking around the Jefferson and FDR, which was a perfect choice because it gave the boys a break in between photo time… plenty of things to climb and play on! They were really great sports with all the picture taking we did, and even contributed some ideas of their own. :)

Judah – Two Months

I photographed Brian and Rachel’s epic Westin Annapolis wedding more than three years ago! Hard to believe how quickly time flies… Anyway, I was super excited to hear they were expecting a new addition to the family because I knew with smiles like theirs, they were destined to produce a beautiful baby. And Judah is every bit of that and more! This kid is adorable and I loved that he was so wide awake for most of the session. He gave me some great expressions that I never would have captured if he had been sleeping the whole time. It was perfect.

Kelly & Jeff – London Town Wedding Photography

I really like Kelly and Jeff. As Jeff’s dad said twice in his toast, “Jeff has the biggest heart of anyone you’ll ever meet.” I couldn’t agree more – both Jeff AND Kelly do. And even though I joked with them that they should have maybe just eloped because the stress of wedding planning was killing them, I was so happy to see them finally able to relax and enjoy their day with all their friends and family. This was one of those twelve-hour days that flew by for me, and by the end of it, I was wondering where it all went. From the morning boudoir session with Kelly (which is a great idea, and I think all brides should consider it!) to the emotional First Look in downtown Annapolis to the beautifully choreographed first dance at London Town to the send-off through raised light sabers  – the whole day was jam-packed with awesomeness.

Elizabeth & Adam – Federal Hill Baltimore Engagement Photography

This session was awesome! Maybe mostly because I was slightly enamored with Elizabeth and Adam’s adorable puppy Lucy. Seriously, what an incredible doggie model, especially for just being a puppy! (And those ears….) But enough about the dog. I’m equally enamored with Elizabeth and Adam, who are really cool people and easy to talk to. Their wedding is coming up next month, although I just discovered they are already married! When the stress of wedding planning was turning the experience into something they didn’t enjoy, they decided to elope on the beach instead. So now they’re looking forward to their wedding in a few short weeks, which will no doubt be super fun and a relaxed day for them. Can’t wait!!
